The AI bedtime story…

This morning, i came across an inspiring article from Prof. Dr. Yasmin Weiß about Deep Human Skills – in connection or comparison with AI.

I was unsure, what i should to with it. Just share it (which i do here: https://lnkd.in/eRsZpXfk), like it (which i did), or use it to highlight some insights based on my own perspective (for which i finally decided). So here we go:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘀-𝗜𝘀-𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: during the last days, there was an amazing lineup of new tech announcements. Open AI announced GPT-4o, Google announced the next version of Gemeni, recently Apple announced a new IPad with M4 (AI-)silicon in it, and many more. We ARE already in a world, where multimodal AI is present, natural language processing is solved (can’t be much better), and where GenAI produces any kind of multimedia in real-world-like quality. Therefore, 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀 in their daily tasks and will – for sure – also replace some of these tasks completely.

So, what are skills, that CANNOT be replaced or augmented by AI ( Prof. Dr. Yasmin Weiß calls them Deep Human Skills): 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲, 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁, 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀.

This is, what makes us different!

Once we all accept, that AI is there, is not stoppable, will not vanish, and will be part of our lives, we must consider three things:
1) how can we augment our daily live with AI
2) how can we strengthen our deep human skills
3) how can we ensure, that technology, mindset, and education is available for everyone?

From my perspective, THESE are the real challenges!

AI might write a bedtime story. AI might even read it or illustrate it. But it will be the parents cuddling their children while they fall asleep.

𝗦𝗼…. 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗔𝗜 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻?

P.S.: you might wonder, why i as a computer scientist write an article about human skills. Actually, the reason is, that i believe, that all this technical stuff is solvable. However, the human „stuff“ worries me a lot…

P.P.S.: the image has been generated with Midjourney. Prompt: a funny animation of a small red robot cuddling a child into sleep and telling a bedtime story in the style of a pixar cartoon –ar 3:4
