In the current constellation with Trump and Musk, the mixing of government/state and private enterprise in the USA is consistent and logical (albeit worrying).
But it also makes it clear to us that we (and especially we Europeans) are also becoming more and more dependent on privately managed companies that provide infrastructure services. Be it in the energy sector, the construction industry, security or even the internet and communications: private and global companies are increasingly in play and increasingly irreplaceable. The same applies to media, especially social media, and AI.

The brave new world in which we all interact peacefully with each other and in which technology is used for the better has unfortunately changed. When using any technology, you now have to ask yourself the question “what if the manufacturer simply switches it off or uses it against me”. Sad, but true.
That’s why we are now (rightly) starting to build a European satellite internet, focusing on European AI, reducing non-European components in defense systems (physical and digital), etc. Not nice either, but necessary. The good thing is that this will (hopefully) bring Europe closer together again.
The bad thing is that the experiences of recent months have caused so much damage in such a short space of time that it will take decades to restore the lost trust.
