Hardware and system platforms

This lecture lays the foundations for understanding modern IT architectures. In addition to the introduction of standard formats and coding (e.g. binary coding, ASCII, Unicode, image and sound coding), basic circuits from which computers are constructed are discussed. An overview of the most important hardware components, peripherals, sensors (e.g. on smartphones and edge devices), as well as the most important operating systems and their tasks, helps to gain a technical understanding of the relationships between current hardware and software. New use cases then arise in the network, such as Cloud computing and virtualization.
