When was the last time you received a handwritten letter? And when did you receive an e-mail?

The topic of “mandatory AI labeling” sometimes strikes me as very short-term thinking. It’s a bit like having to write “sent digitally” under every email…

𝗘𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗷𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗴, 𝗞𝗜-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲 𝘇𝘂 𝗲𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗻 – 𝗱𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗵𝘁 𝘃𝗼̈𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴 𝗮𝘂ß𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲.

But if you look at how quickly and rapidly the industry is developing, there will soon be almost no non-AI-generated or non-AI-assisted content left. Social media will be flooded with automated posts, blogs on the internet as well, and our other correspondence will also be AI-fied.

𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗮 𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗵𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗲𝗵𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝘂̈𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮̈𝘁𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗹 “𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻” 𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘇𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗻? 𝗜𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗿, 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗮̈𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝘇𝘄𝗲𝗶 𝗝𝗮𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗲𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗲𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮̈𝘁𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗸𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗶𝗻, 𝗱𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝘂̈𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀𝘁, 𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗜-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁.

Technically, this is also much easier to implement than obliging all AI manufacturers to mark their content (most of them don’t want to do this). The C2PA can already do this today – e.g. for seamless documentation of the processing of digital images.

From camera manufacturers to image/video editing software to publishing – documenting and confirming the man-made would be much easier than recognizing the AI-generated!

𝗜𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗹𝗮̈𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝘂̈𝗿 𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮̈𝘁𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗹 “𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻”!

Then we can also show the producers the appropriate appreciation, which then feels just as “important” as when you receive a handwritten letter.

P.S.: Industries that are now supposedly “threatened with extinction” can discover a new niche through such quality features and clearly stand out against the flood of AI content!
