Education is a high-risk area

𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗸𝗼-𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗰𝗵!

And it’s not because of potentially violent students, a dangerous commute, any cyber issues with the teaching/learning environment, the challenge of using the coffee machine properly or the risk of becoming addicted to the smell of whiteboard markers (although the latter should not be underestimated)…

It is located at 𝗘𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗘𝗨-𝗔𝗜-𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘀, 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘂𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝘁 “𝗵𝗼𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗸𝗼” 𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘁.

𝗪𝗮𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗼?

We have all experienced that AI systems sometimes spit out some pretty nonsense. If, for example, chat GPT were to be used to create uncontrolled teaching material, exams and slides, then such hallucinations could become learned knowledge and mislead a large number of learners – this must not happen, of course.

This is why we at educational institutions have to consider the use of AI separately and are subject to (much) higher documentation and transparency obligations than most other companies. We need to demand much more sensitivity from our professors when dealing with AI systems. This also applies to our colleagues in administration.
