Waste of energy action figure

I was horrified to discover the next (hopefully-not) trend on LinkedIn today! Users are now starting to animate their ChatGPT-generated ActionFigures with Sora.

I admit, it looks fun, is fascinating and invites you to play.

𝗔𝗯𝗲𝗿: 𝗞𝗜 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘁 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲! 𝗨𝗻𝗱 𝘇𝘄𝗮𝗿 𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝘇𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗮𝗽𝗽!

Just to illustrate the amount of energy we generate with our sometimes thoughtless pastime prompts:

𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗱-𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗚𝗣𝗧:
– approx. 0.05 kWh (roughly what the toaster needs to make breakfast)
– approx. 20g CO2
approx. 1.5 cents energy costs

𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼-𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗮:
– approx. 3 kWh (approx. 3 machines washing, 45 min car journey, running a small fridge for 3 days)
– approx. 1.4 kg CO2
– approx. 90 cents

Especially here on LinkedIn, many people are talking about sustainability, so I think it’s important to realize that AI is not a gimmick!

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗚𝗣𝗧 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗲𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗯𝘀𝘁, 𝗶𝗺 𝗝𝗮𝗵𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗰𝗮. 𝟭,𝟬𝟱𝟵 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗸𝗪𝗵, 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗶𝗺 𝗪𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮. 𝟭𝟰𝟬 𝗠𝗶𝗼 $ 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝘇𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗻.

So I really hope that it stays with generating action figure pictures (cheers to the toaster) and that we leave the 3 washing machines in the basement.

P.S.: I calculated the figures with the help of ChatGPT (cost 0.013 kWh, i.e. 0.39 cents).

P.P.S.: ChatGPT spits this out without any problems if you ask for it…. Prompt: “How much energy has this chat consumed here?”

P.P.S.: yes, I also generated an action figure. But I never shared it (who wants to see something like that from me…)

P.P.P.S.: hand on heart: how many action figures have you created? It’s not like the first shot is always right… the toaster heats up quickly (laugh)…
